2006 50c Selectively Gold Plated Proof Coins

The Royal Australian Mint has introduced the 2006 50c Selectively Gold Plated Proof Coin to commemorate Queen Elizabeth the II’s 80th Birthday and her momentous visit to Australia to open the Commonwealth Games.

A limited issue of 7500 of these coins were struck and the twin coin sets are magnificently presented in a rich wooden case fitted with a striking black lining.

Per the Mint, “The Birthday Coin is sparkling and celebratory and the Royal Visit Coin represents the stability of the Crown contrasted with the rapid growth of Australia. This symbolism was approved by the Queen and masterfully designed by her appointed goldsmith and jeweller Mr. Stuart Devlin.”

Specifications of the coin are:

Denomination is 2 by 50c pieces of Pure 99.99 percent silver. The coins weight in at 18.25 grams and have a diameter each of 31.55. the finish is Gold Plated Proof and the designer is S Devlin.

These coins are quite beautiful and would certainly grace any coin enthusiasts collection.
