Britannia has appeared on many British coins throughout the ages and we have here a striking new incarnation, rendered by Christopher Le Brun, RA. In fact, Christopher Le Brun, RA has created a new image especially for this 2007 coin yet has remained faithful to the spirit of Britannia, incorporating her traditional symbols and leonine companion, yet with a contemporary air that rewards repeated viewings.
Britannia has symbolized Britain and her proud island heritage since the time of Roman Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD). She first appeared on British currency in 1672, on the copper coins of Charles II. He used her as a political symbol of his war with the Dutch, though her olive branch represented a desire for peace above conflict.
Beautifully presented and accompanied by an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity the coin carries on its obverse the familiar portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley, FRBS. The coin contains a quarter of an ounce of fine gold, and is made available in its own presentation case.
The Price is £ 175.00 and the code is BR07GQ
