Half Sovereign Portrait Collection
These are 22 carat proof gold and a weight of 3.99grams each.
When minting of gold sovereigns resumed in the 1950s the Queen’s portrait was combined with the classic depiction of St George and Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci, a masterpiece created for the first modern sovereign of 1817 and still the great favorite of the numismatic world. Curiously, no half-sovereigns were issued until 1982 which means that no half-sovereigns bearing the Gillick head were ever made available. In a handsome presentation case therefore, this classic set combines:
The three half-sovereigns of the Queen’s reign each carrying a separate portrait of the Queen with Pistrucci’s dynamic reverse. All are struck in 22 carat gold to Proof quality and taken from their original issue limit and there is only a limited amount still available.
