April 21st is the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who this year celebrates her 80th birthday. To commemorate this royal occasion the British Royal mint is issuing a 2006 Queens 80th Birthday 5 pound gold proof coin.

As per the Royal Mint, “Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born at 2.40 am 21st April 1926 and enjoyed a happy carefree childhood with her devoted parents, taking in her stride the change of status to heir of the throne at just 10 years of age.

Her fairy-tale wedding in 1947 began one of the world’s most celebrated marriages and her accession to the throne in 1952 began one of the longest reigns in the English monarchy.
